  4. Getting Started
  5. ===============
  6. If you have any problems getting Actua Soccer running on your
  7. machine check the following.
  8.  
  9. 1.) Do you have enough memory available to run the game? Actua Soccer
  10. needs a minimum of 4 Meg of memory (8Meg for commentary).
  11.  
  12. 2.) Make sure that you do not have SMARTDRIVE activated.
  13. 3.) Have you configured your soundcard correctly?
  14. 4.) Do you have a mouse driver installed? If NO then install one and
  15. try again.
  16. 5.) You may under certain circumstances, experience problems
  17. when running Actua Soccer with UNIVBE. If you do experience any
  18. problems then simply remove UNIVBE from your AUTOEXEC.BAT
  19. and run the game in lo-res.
  20.  
  21. HI-RES/LO-RES MODES
  22. =================
  23. If you have SVGA capabilities on your machine, then you will be
  24. able to view both the Main Menus and game in glorious Hi-res.
  25. If however you find when running the game that you cannot enter 
  26. the hi-res it means that you do not have SVGA capabilities. If you
  27. contact you video card supplier they should be able to supply
  28. you with a driver.
  29.  
  30. Sound/Commentary
  31. ================
  32. The Actua Soccer commentary system uses a method of pulling each
  33. commentary sample off the CD or hard drive. For obvious reasons 
  34. loading the sample off the CD Drive takes longer than from a
  35. hard disk drive. On the minimum install option you may experience
  36. a slight pause everytime the game looks for a different sample. 
  37. This is because the Minimum install option requires the game to 
  38. load every sample from the CD. The Medium and Maximum install
  39. options copy more samples to the hard drive and therefore will
  40. remove the pause.

  42. Network Game
  43. ============

  45. Please note that during a network game occasionally under certain   
  46. circumstances one or more players may experience synchronisation
  47. problems manifesting itself in inconsistent game results across
  48. the networked machines.
  49.  
  50. In the event this happens please check for presence of one of the
  51. Pentium (TM) processors with the known floating point fault. You
  52. can do this by running a program called 'PROCESS' included on this
  53. disc. If the result is 'TYPE A' then you have one of these faulty
  54. processors.

  56. We suggest you contact your PC supplier as Intel have a replacement
  57. policy.
  58.  
  59. If all the network machines use the faulty processor then the game
  60. should not suffer from this problem.

  63. Look out for serial/ modem link upgrade.
  64.  
  65. Known Problems
  66. ==============
  67.  
  68. There is a known problem with the Cirrus Logic 5429 Video Card. In
  69. rare cases the opening animation can corrupt in high resolution.
  70. This can be ignored and the rest of the game will function correctly.
  71. This problem does not occur on the rest of the 54xx series.
